Keeping Leeds Bradford Airport Moving: Richard's Experience with Ripon Farm Services

Introduction by Leeds Bradford Airport

At Leeds Bradford Airport, we connect our thriving region to the world, helping millions of passengers travel to over 80 international destinations every year. In 2025 alone, 4.45 million passengers travelled through our airport, reflecting our continued growth and importance as a regional gateway.

With a rich history dating back to 1931, we’ve evolved from a local aerodrome into a key regional hub. We partner with leading airlines to deliver strong connectivity, competitive fares, and reliable travel experiences for both leisure and business passengers.

We’re also investing heavily in our future. Our multi-million-pound regeneration project is already transforming the airport, with a new terminal extension opened in summer 2025 and phase 2 underway. As we continue to grow, with plans to serve 7 million passengers annually by 2030, Leeds Bradford Airport remains focused on connecting people, supporting our region’s economy, and delivering a travel experience our customers can rely on.

Meet Richard Duncan…

For Richard Duncan, Head of Airfield Operations at Leeds Bradford Airport, reliability isn't just important—it's essential. With 34 years of experience managing the airport's airfield operations, he understands the critical role that dependable equipment and trusted service partners play in keeping the airport running safely every day of the year.

Standardising the Fleet for Greater Efficiency

A key focus for Richard and the team has been standardising the airport's machinery. By choosing the same manufacturer (John Deere) across the fleet, operators benefit from the familiar controls and the consistent performance, therefore reducing training requirements.

By standardising the fleet, this is an advantage for the workshop. With one brand of machine across the fleet, maintenance becomes more efficient, parts can be standardised and holding stock is simplified, helping to minimise downtime when servicing or repairs are needed.

A Partnership Built on Reliability

Leeds Bradford Airport relies on its equipment 365 days of the year! During the summer months, the tractors and machinery are essential for maintaining the airfield, while in the winter they become critical for clearing the snow and ice. Any unexpected downtime can have a direct impact on all airport operations.

Richard said, "That's why after-sales support from Ripon Farm Services has become such an important part of the partnership!"

Richard also explained that having a local dealer who can respond quickly, whether that's sending out a mechanic or providing a replacement machine when necessary, gives the team confidence that operations can continue with minimal disruption.

Support When It Matters Most

Over the years, Ripon Farm Services has delivered the high level of support Leeds Bradford Airport depends on. While the occasional issue is inevitable with any machinery fleets, Richards says problems have always been resolved quickly and professionally.

That reliable service has strengthened the airport's confidence in continuing to invest in John Deere, Kramer, genuine parts, tools, and the expertise provided by Ripon Farm Services.

Richard believes the relationship built over the years is one of the partnership's greatest strengths.

"The trust and relationship we've built over the years is key. We know that if we need support, the team is there to respond quickly and keep us operational."
